Jorge and O&M are responsible for overseeing the daily operations and maintenance activities of our solar parks. O&M ensures optimal performance and reliability of our assets. However, when Jorge started at BeGreen, O&M was at its early conception. Jorge continues: “To start working in the O&M team from the beginning of its conception, was something that caught my attention when first applying for a position at BeGreen. It is always a challenge to start working on a team from the ground up, but in my perspective is also the best way to learn and develop your skills.” Every week is different than the previous one in O&M.
There are often new challenges that needs to be solved. Jorge gets to troubleshoot on technical issues, plan maintenance activities and report on the performance of solar parks. As his responsibilities have grown, so has the team. Building an ambitious team Shortly after Jorge joined, O&M got a Director of O&M.
His name is also Jorge, but it is not pronounced the same. Jorge Luis Castano is from Colombia. He has more than 20 years of experience from within the energy industry. Today the O&M team consists of an Engineer, Site Operations Manager, and multiple Electricians. “We have very skilled and experienced members in the O&M team, and it is always a pleasure to work with them and build the O&M department at BeGreen. It is much easier to feel good and motivated at work when you are surrounded by good and skilled people.” Jorge says.
Teambuilding is key
The O&M team works both on-site and at the office. When issues and obstacles occur, the team needs to resolve the issue as fast as possible, so the solar parks maintain production. Jorge clarifies that it is also extremely exciting and rewarding when the team overcomes or solves a new issue.
“I used to play handball at a high level for Benfica. Team building was key for optimal performance. It’s the same here. I truly believe that in order to be one of the best at what you do, you need to learn from the best and challenge yourself every day. And that is the case at BeGreen. We have very skilled and competent people in the O&M department, and it provides a great work and growth environment for all the team members.”
The Tech department at BeGreen consists of more than 20. They are divided into different teams with expertise with on construction, grid connection, health and safety and engineering. O&M predominantly gets involved on a project near end of construction. They remain for the rest of the solar parks estimated lifespan. However, the whole tech team plays a pivotal role from start to finish of a solar park. An international and cozy adventure BeGreen has two offices in Denmark. Jorge works at our biggest office in Copenhagen. It is also the capital of Denmark and known for its cozy atmosphere. It was a shared wish to move to Denmark when Jorge and his girlfriend first moved here.
They had heard good things about Denmark but had yet to visit the country before they relocated. “Denmark is a beautiful country and with a high quality of life. It wasn’t too hard to get used to it. I can see myself living here for a long time and already feel well integrated. I have even already taken some Danish classes and I am almost at the last module, so if I can learn Danish, I can do anything.” Jorge says. Jorge is one out of many expats that work at BeGreen. BeGreen wants to employ the right person for the right job, so giving people abroad the chance is a given. It benefits the company as a whole and keeps the level of expertise high. Jorge highlights another great aspect of having colleagues with different backgrounds and cultures. “Not only do you learn about the solar industry. You can also learn something new about different cultures almost every week. It brings an interesting element to the short breaks that we have together.” Jorge finishes:
